Kathmandu: In response to the revelation of foreign nationals' complicity in a significant gold smuggling operation involving 61 kilograms of gold, Nepal Police has taken decisive action. A representative from the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) is being dispatched to Hong Kong to gather essential information pertaining to the case. This move follows the escalating foreign connections detected in the illegal gold transportation, prompting Nepal Police to seek support from Interpol.

Deputy Inspector General and Nepal Police spokesperson, Kuber Kadayat, divulged that Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dinesh Raj Acharya is set to embark on a journey to Hong Kong in the near future. The objective of this mission is to gain a comprehensive understanding of the intricate details surrounding the smuggling of the substantial gold consignment.

The gold, weighing approximately 60.716 kilograms, was seized by the Revenue Investigation Department (RID) in Sinamangal, Kathmandu, nearly a month ago. Subsequently, the case was formally handed over to the CIB for a thorough investigation, marking a transition in investigative jurisdiction from RID after a two-week period following the gold seizure.

Given the verified involvement of individuals from both Indian and Chinese nationalities in this illicit gold smuggling operation, the Nepal Police has initiated correspondence with Interpol. This cooperative endeavor aims to harness the collective resources of international law enforcement agencies to effectively address the transnational nature of the smuggling scheme.
